Meta Officially Launches Twitter Rival Threads. 30 Million Have Joined Already
Capitalising on user unrest as a result of Elon Musk’s changes at Twitter, Meta on Wednesday officially launched its new, text-based app dubbed Project 92 internally and Threads externally. This is intended to offer a space for real-time conversations online, a function that has long been Twitter’s core selling point.
The app received 30 million sign-ups as of Thursday morning, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on his verified Threads account.
Twitter Has Started Blocking Unregistered Users
Prior to the Threads launch, Twitter had apparently started blocking internet users from seeing tweets if they are not already logged into a Twitter account. Previously, anyone could view a Twitter profile and its tweets without the need to be logged in, provided the account isn’t set to private.
