This data is particularly crucial for pregnant cows, as it can signal potential complications or the onset of labor. Without this data, Bircher was unable to monitor the health of his herd effectively.
In the case of the affected cow, the lack of data prevented Bircher from recognising signs of distress. The unborn calf ultimately died due to complications during gestation, and the mother cow’s health deteriorated to the point where euthanasia was the only humane option.
