Instagram and Facebook Get Ad-Free Subscriptions in The EU
Starting in November, Meta will offer Facebook and Instagram users in the EU, EEA (European Economic Area) and Switzerland the opportunity to remove all advertisements from the platforms via a new subscription plan.
There is one small catch: users must be at least 18 years old. Otherwise, they can’t pay for a plan.

Google Search Can Help You with Your Math Homework
Google is updating its search engine and Lens tool with new features to help students visualise and solve tricky math problems.
The upgraded Google Search can now tackle more complex forms of math like calculus and trigonometry. All you have to do is type in the equation or integral into the text bar at the top or take a picture of your homework with Lens. You’ll then see a series of step-by-step instructions explaining how to solve it with the answer at the bottom.

OpenAI took the leash (and the “Chat”) off ChatGPT today with the announcement of GPTs, a way for anyone to build their own version of the popular conversational AI system.
Not only can you make your own GPT for fun or productivity, but you’ll soon be able to publish it on a marketplace they call the GPT Store — and maybe even make a little cash in the process.

Elon Musk Unveils Grok, its own AI Chatbot
Elon Musk has unveiled Grok, an artificial intelligence chatbot with a “rebellious streak” inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
The Tesla CEO, who warned last week that AI was “one of the biggest threats to humanity”, said the competitor to ChatGPT would be made available to premium subscribers on his X platform after testing.
Musk also revealed that Grok had access to user posts on X, which he owns.

Cloudflare Services Suffers Major Outage
At approximately 11:54 AM UTC on 2 November 2023, Cloudflare customers started experiencing problems with its APIs and Dashboard services.
Cloudflare Edge security features, and Cloudflare CDN caching services were not affected. But all other services relying on the Cloudflare API infrastructure went down – Alerts, Dashboard functionality, Zero Trust, WARP, Cloudflared, Waiting Room, Gateway, Stream, Magic WAN, API Shield, Pages, and Workers.
Just over an hour later, Cloudflare reported that the outage was far worse than it initially reported, and they were still “actively investigating the problem”.

Thousands Of MyGov Accounts Suspended Monthly
Australia has lost $3.1 billion from threat actors targeting myGov accounts this year alone, leading to thousands of accounts being suspended.
According to Australian Government Services Minister Bill Shorten, there have been 4,500 confirmed myGov scams, with many more accounts suspended to proactively thwart potential scams.

Kmart Pays $1.3m Fine
Kmart has been raked over the coals by the Australian Communications and Media Authority and paid a fine of $1.3 million for sending more than 200,000 marketing emails over a 10-month period to customers who had previously unsubscribed.
The Wesfarmers-owned retailer sent the 212,4712 emails between July 2022 and May 2023, with ACMA saying Kmart was warned on “multiple occasions” that there were issues with its marketing emails.

Google November 2023 Core Update Released
Google’s November 2023 core update is now rolling out and may take up to two weeks to complete.
This is the fourth broad core algorithm update of 2023. The first core update of 2023 was the March 2023 core update, which started rolling out on March 15 and was completed on March 28. The second core update of 2023 was the August 2023 core update, which started rolling out on August 22 and was completed on September 7. The third core update was the October 2023 core update, which started rolling out on October 5 and was completed on October 19.
