Meta To Launch AI Chatbots With Distinct Personas
Facebook’s parent company, Meta, may be preparing to launch a new range of chatbots with distinct personalities, potentially as early as next month.
The bots aim to boost user engagement and provide innovative search functions and recommendations on Meta’s platforms.
The big tech company is exploring a variety of “personas.” One is rumored to be a bot that emulates the speaking style of Abraham Lincoln. Another adopts a surfer’s demeanor to provide travel advice.

New Scams Targeting Customers of Loyalty Points Programs
A new scam targeting customers of loyalty points programs with large, well-known Australian companies has been detected by the National Anti-Scam Centre.
The National Anti-Scam Centre is warning consumers about a new text message scam currently targeting Qantas Frequent Flyer, Telstra and Coles loyalty programs’ customers, following 209 reports to Scamwatch in the past four months.
“While the vast majority of reports to Scamwatch received so far are in relation to Qantas Frequent Flyer, Telstra and Coles loyalty programs, it is important for Australians to be aware that any loyalty program could be referred to in this type of scam,” ACCC Deputy Chair Catriona Lowe said.

You Now Have 4 Days To Disclose Data Breaches in US
New US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules will force publicly-listed US companies to inform investors that they’ve suffered a data breach within four days – lifting the bar for breach disclosure and raising questions about whether Australia will follow suit.
Passed in late July after months of discussion, the new rules published by the SEC – the American equivalent of ASIC – give any publicly listed company four days to disclose details of a “material” data breach by filing one or more SEC Form 8-K.

Digital Services Disputes on The Rise For Small Businesses
A case of remedial massage business Zenbar engaging a British-based marketing company on commission to sell appointment vouchers and not receiving deposit payments is yet another case in a long list of SMEs taking the legal route.
The Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman stepped in and managed to establish contact with the marketing service and within two months negotiated the payment of all the funds owed.
According to Ombudsman Bruce Billson, more than one-in-four disputes handled by his organisation now involve digital services and platform providers, which was “double the proportion we received just two years ago”.
